Port Douglas & Agincourt Reef (GBR), Qld

After a 10+ hour drive from Airlie Beach to Port Douglas (which is located above Cairns, the place where we had to return our trusty rental car), we got settled in the cheapest but very good motel in town. We were psyched as we would be able to explore the Great Barrier Reef (GBR) once again. After careful deliberation which company to choose, we went with Poseidon Cruises out onto three different sections of the Agincourt Reef.

Sois swimming with the fishes

We both did an introductory dive at the reef because we just wanted to experience how it would be like to dive the GBR. Unfortunately was Sois unable to complete the dive because he had too much troubles with his ears. Chel, on the contrary, made a successful but thrilling dive. She was convinced that there were jellyfish everywhere in the water but it actually was a huge amount of krill and plankton. After heavy underwater antics and discussion with her dive instructor, she did go fully under and saw so may beautiful things that she still smiles every time its gets mentioned.

Ghost-faced box fish

For the rest, we did two snorkel tours to explore the reef on ourselves (well, within a group). We had to wear stinger suits (nice spandex/lycra superhero-like suits) to protect us from stinging things. What we saw there under the water was again unbelievable and even more beautiful than at Heron. This post and the next one showcases some of the pictures we have taken ourselves from this underwater world. We know we have said this more often, but just look and gasp and awe. We sure did.

Pretty darn good looking unicorn fish

Clam chowder anyone?
