Fairtex Muay Thai Camp, Pattaya (Thailand)

Back from Malaysia and straight into one of Thailand's most depraved coastal towns, Pattaya. Before we started our worldtrip, we decided that we would like to visit a Muay Thai (Thaiboxing) camp, just for the experience. Since Muay Thai is Thailand's signature sport, there were many camps to choose from, especially in the greater Bangkok area. We, however, settled for a bit more relaxing setting because we wanted to slow down and relax, but in the meantime train as well. We know this sounds a little contradicting, but since we only had three days at our disposal, it would make little sense to go into one of the more "hardcore" camps.

Fairtex Pattaya has a lot of facilities (e.g. pool, tennis, new gym, etc.) next to their comprehensive Muay Thai offering and we both thought that this would be a perfect place for some "inspannende ontspanning" (sorry, no english translation). They offered twice daily Muay Thai training sessions, in the morning and afternoon. We tried to visit as many trainings as possible even though the almost 5 months of traveling had taken its toll on our athletic capabilities.

We met some really nice people over there from various countries. In addition, Fairtex staff was really friendly and helpful and we had a great group of trainers. We even went to a kickboxing event featuring a whole line-up of Thai and foreign Muay Thai fighters. There were some brutal fights resulting in some cracked ribs, kneecaps and a quite decent amount of blood. All in all, a very entertaining (if long) night ;-)

As for us, well, we had trouble to unwind and adjust ourselves to a slower pace. Exploration was substituted for relaxation. Our final verdict on that stay: those that are interested in getting their kickboxing skills further heightened should stick to Fairtex's Bangpleeyaa in Bangkok (or other more low-profile camps). Anyone that wants to cram in a little bit of resort-style holiday (nightlife included) is better off going to Fairtex Pattaya. Remember though that intense training can be done everywhere if you really want to; the key is to train hard and smart. And with that immortal piece of advice we leave you be... until we post again!

Chel seeming to like the training

Muay Thai greetings from Daniel-san, Ms. Myagi, and our trainer Ram-the-Man
