Heron Island (Part I - Arrival)

After having a good night's sleep after the turtle experience at Mon Repos in a really good B&B, we decided that we head for two supposedly booming towns called Agnes Water and the Town of 1770 to go for a cruise Lady Musgrave Island and the lower end of the Great Barrier Reef. Luckily, the company's boat was broken which is how we ended up at the location I-site information center where we booked something that sounded (and definitely was) even better: A 2-night stay at Voyages' eco-resort at Heron Island (famous for its beach and turtles).

Heron, here we come!

Some quick facts: Heron Island (23°26'S, 151°51'E) is a coral cay located near the Tropic of Capricorn in the southern Great Barrier Reef, 72 km north-east of Gladstone, Queensland, Australia, and 539 km north of the state capital Brisbane. The island is situated on the leeward (western) side of Heron Reef, a fringing platform reef of significant biodiversity, supporting around 900 of the 1500 fish species and 72% of the coral species found on the Great Barrier Reef. Heron Island houses a Marine Research Center and tourist eco-resort.

But this is something you guys probably don't want to read. No, you want to see more pictures. We have divided the posts for Heron Island into 4 parts, each covering a different aspects of what your dynamic duo did there. So dig in deeper and relive with us the fantastic moments we had at Heron Island (highly recommended ;-)

Some of our new neighbors...
